  • Speech clarity refers to how clearly a child can form and join together speech sounds to create words.

    A child with reduced speech clarity may have difficulty being understood and expressing their thoughts, wants and needs to others.

    Some examples of speech errors include: “tat” for “cat”, “wabbit for “rabbit” and “boo” for “book”.

    Note: Some speech errors (phonological speech errors) can be a typical part of development and they often disappear on their own. If the speech error persists past a certain age, however, it is likely that your child will require support from a speech pathologist. Refer to the blog post on phonological speech errors for more information on the different ages speech sound errors should disappear by.

  • Early language refers to the development of communication skills in infants and toddlers. The first 3 years are a critical period for brain development and set the foundation for future learning and language. Even before using words, babies communicate through eye contact, sounds, facial expressions and gestures. Parents play a significant role by responding to their baby’s cues and modelling communication and social skills to them.

If your have any concerns about your child’s language development, an assessment from a speech pathologist will be able to give you more information and, if any issues are identified, a plan of action should be created to address them.

1. Connect

Connect via the contact page to check availability. A free 15 minute phone conversation may be arranged to see if an assessment would be beneficial and working together would be a good fit.

2. assess

Assessment includes gathering information from various sources to gain a holistic picture of strengths and difficulties. This includes a detailed case history, relevant information from other health professionals and/or educators and a comprehensive interactive assessment.

3. plan

If any speech or language difficulties are identified that are not typically considered age appropriate, a plan of action will be created collaboratively— taking into account clinical findings as well as goals that are important to you and your child.

Funding and rebate options

  • NDIS funding is accepted for participants who are self or plan managed. Fee is consistent with current NDIS recommendations of $193.99/hr.

  • Services for complex neurodevelopmental disorders and eligible disabilities:

    From March 1, 2026, speech sound disorders were added to the eligible disabilities list under the Medicare MBS M10 item group (services for ‘complex neurodevelopmental disorders and eligible disabilities'). This entitles individuals under 25 to access a total of 20 subsidised sessions per lifetime and may be used in combination with a Chronic Condition Management Plan.

    Referral from a GP, consultant physician or specialist is required.

    Estimated benefit: $87.25/hr

    Chronic Condition Management (CCM) Plan

    A Medicare rebate may also apply when a Chronic Disease Management Plan is completed by your GP.

    Please note: full payment of $193.99/hr will be required at the time of service. You alone are responsible for collecting your rebate from Medicare once payment has been made.

  • Reduced rate of $183.99/hr for health care card holders only.

    (Talk to your GP or enquire through the contact page to see if your child may eligible for the M10 Medicare rebate of up to $87 per session.)

  • Your refund amount is dependent on your health fund's rules and your level of your cover. (Contact your health insurer prior to your session to discuss your level of cover.)

    Please note: full payment of $193.99 will be required at the time of service. You alone are responsible for collecting your refund from your health insurer once your invoice has been paid in full.

  • Self-funded clients are welcome to access all services. Fees are consistent across all services at $193.99/hr.
